Honeycomb FAQs

What is honeycomb?

Honeycomb is raw honey stored inside natural beeswax cells created by honeybees. Each hexagonal cell is built entirely by the bees using wax they produce themselves. Because it is minimally processed, honeycomb contains raw honey exactly as it exists inside the hive.

Can you eat the beeswax?

Yes. Beeswax is completely edible and safe to consume. Many people enjoy chewing the wax like a natural gum after the honey is eaten. The wax can also be swallowed or removed depending on personal preference.

How do you eat honeycomb?

Honeycomb is incredibly versatile and can be enjoyed in many ways:

• Spread onto warm toast or fresh bread

• Paired with cheese boards or charcuterie

• Added to yogurt, oatmeal, or fruit bowls

• Served with desserts or ice cream

• Eaten straight from the comb

Simply cut or scoop a small piece and enjoy.

Does honeycomb need to be refrigerated?

No. Honeycomb is shelf stable and should be stored at room temperature in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Refrigeration is not necessary and but is sometimes nice for more of a crumbly consistency.

Why does honeycomb sometimes crystallize?

Crystallization is a natural process that happens in raw honey over time. It does not mean the honey has gone bad. The texture may become firmer or more creamy depending on the nectar source.

Is honeycomb raw?

Yes. Honeycomb contains raw, unfiltered honey directly from the hive. Because it is minimally processed, it retains natural enzymes, pollen, and botanical characteristics from the nectar sources.

What does honeycomb taste like?

Flavor varies depending on the flowers visited by the bees. Hawaiian honeycomb often carries unique floral, tropical, or complex flavor notes that reflect the island’s diverse nectar sources.

How long does honeycomb last?

When stored properly, honeycomb has an extremely long shelf life. Honey is naturally antimicrobial and stable, making it one of the longest lasting natural foods.

Is honeycomb safe for everyone?

Honey and honeycomb should not be given to infants under one year of age. For everyone else, honeycomb is generally safe unless you have a known allergy to bee products.

Why choose Hawaiian honeycomb?

Hawaiʻi’s year round tropical blooms create distinct nectar sources that produce unique flavor profiles. Combined with resilient island bee genetics, this results in premium honey that reflects its place of origin.
